Islamic Marriage at SMIC

Many couples wish to have authentic Islamic recognition of their marriage, in addition to their civil marriage. The Shahjalal Mosque and Islamic Center (SMIC) can provide this simple service, where the bride and groom make their commitment to an Islamic marriage through their freely given consent, and the groom gives to the bride a dowry (Mahr).

Important Note: The SMIC Trust strongly recommends couples should undertake separately a legal civil marriage.

The Process

To arrange a Nikah ceremony at the mosque, please ensure you fill out this form and have the following ready:

  • Id
  • Proof of address
  • Place and date of the ceremony
  • Presence of two male Muslim witnesses.
  • Presence of the Wali (Bride's guardian).
  • Agreed Mahr (Dowry) amount.

For details of the marriage process at SMIC, including how to apply the conditions for such a marriage, please contact our reception or download the application form below.
